Chimay Blue Cap, "baptized' Grande Reserve in 750 ml bottles is a dark Trappist beer with a powerful aroma, the complex flavour of which improves across the years. Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong dark beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.
As one of the biggest Trappist breweries in the world, Chimay beers are now found all over the world despite still being brewed at the Scourmont Abbey under the supervision of the monks. They started brewing back in 1862, using water drawn from the Abbey well.
